About Rachell

Rachell’s Biography

Rachell M. Dumas, RN, MSN is a nurse, innovator, and maternal health advocate whose work sits at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and lived experience. With a background in nursing and health informatics, she is passionate about transforming how patients are heard, supported, and empowered within healthcare systems.

Rachell is the founder of A Light After Nine, a nonprofit organization created after experiencing nine pregnancy losses. Through this work, she provides community support, storytelling platforms, and healing-centered programming for families navigating pregnancy and infant loss. Her advocacy centers compassion, equity, and ensuring that no family has to suffer in silence.

Her personal health journey also shaped her path in innovation. After being misdiagnosed and later undergoing two brain surgeries for a neurological condition, Rachell recognized critical gaps in patient communication and advocacy. That experience led her to create HEARD (Human Enabled AI Reporting and Documentation), a patient advocacy technology platform designed to help individuals better document symptoms, communicate with providers, and navigate complex healthcare experiences with confidence and clarity.

As a Black woman in tech and healthcare, Rachell is deeply committed to representation, equity, and building solutions that are rooted in real human experiences. She speaks nationally on patient advocacy, maternal health, trauma-informed care, and the power of lived experience in driving meaningful innovation.

Whether in hospital rooms, community spaces, or technology platforms, Rachell’s mission remains the same: to make sure people feel seen, heard, and supported when it matters most.
