Tell us about your journey into tech
After completing a Marketing degree, I did not have a clear goal in mind when it came to finding an industry to work in. After travelling for a while and job hunting, life as a graduate was hard to navigate. I was lucky enough to start a role in sales operations at one of the world’s largest technology distributors which gave me a great start in the industry. This then led to opportunities for me to transfer my knowledge of the IT Channel over to marketing roles.
How do you think people can go about making a difference, in regards to spreading awareness of Black Women in tech?
We can all have influence by being a visible role model to others and using our voices to lift each other up spread awareness that this industry is for everyone.
What do you believe are the most effective ways to engage other ethnicities and genders to embrace diversity?
By making sure that all ethnicities and genders are represented at all levels of an organisations management structure. All people need to be able to see themselves when looking for opportunities to entry or grow within any industry.
What is the best advice you ever received?
That you as the employee have the power to choose where you work, and your employer is fortunate that you get up each day and choose them.
