Mary was born in north-west London, to Jamaican parents of the Windrush generation. After falling in love with languages at secondary school, she gained admission to King’s College London, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Modern Foreign Languages with Education/PGCE. She also earned the prestigious title of Associate of King’s College (AKC) from supplementary studies in philosophy, religion, and ethics.
She went on to tutor a wide range of children and young people from primary to post-secondary levels in Mathematics, French, and German. During this time, she also achieved a Master of Science degree in Child Development from the Institute of Education, University of London.
She launched her tech career by completing a full-stack coding bootcamp, securing her first role in Software Development shortly before the end of the course. She is currently working on the Ordnance Survey National Geographic Database, a single store of geospatial data for all of Great Britain, where she has contributed to both the front- and back-end of the project.
Mary is constantly seeking new knowledge and pushing herself to achieve it. She has a keen interest in DevOps and cloud technologies, having become Microsoft Certified in Azure Fundamentals in early 2023.
In her free time, she can often be found conversing about 80s music, social media, and afro-textured hair. She remains passionate about increasing representation for young, Black women in the tech industry.
