About the role

As a Senior UX Designer at Matillion, you’ll join a team at the heart of our SaaS product transformation. With dedicated support and direction from a Principal UX Designer, you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of an initial platform feature; the Enterprise Dashboard.

Leveraging your proficiency in Data Visualisation / Dashboards, Information Architecture and UI, you’ll create a dynamic SaaS product that enables customers to effortlessly digest complex data and navigate between their Matillion product suite with delight, whilst contributing to the overall UX strategy and evolving Design System.

Working in an agile squad, you’ll engage directly with customers, partners and prospects, collaborating with Product Managers, Product Owners, Engineers and Product Marketers. Together, you’ll create and launch features that extend the Matillion value proposition as the product evolves — ensuring the customer is at the heart of everything we do. This opportunity hosts significant growth opportunities as a designer; becoming more well versed in SaaS UX, UX Strategy and Lean UX methodologies.

Impact you’ll own

Infuse product direction with deep customer empathy
  • Proactively interpret product direction and devise research strategies to uncover and validate opportunities in collaboration with Product Management and Product Marketing — ensuring all research is high quality and unbiased in its findings
  • Plan and conduct generative market research to gain a deep understanding of target customers — needs, gains, pains, mental models etc.
  • Analyse customer data and insights to create narratives that influence and validate product opportunities / priorities
  • Communicate research findings with the squad and wider business through reports, sessions, personas, empathy maps etc.
  • Leverage frameworks that align the squad on the optimum pursuit of customer and business value / learnings
Collaboratively create first class product experiences
  • Proactively assess the market and perform heuristic analysis of competitor products
  • Lead and support design workshops / design sprints, fostering collaborative creativity and eliciting ideas from across the squad and wider business
  • Create UX ideation / communication artefacts; sketches, design concepts, user journeys, flow diagrams, wireframes etc.
  • Create interactive prototypes in Figma and devise usability testing activities to validate design decisions with customers before they are engineered
  • Create visually stunning UI designs that adhere to Design System guidelines — creating excellent, consistent customer experiences
  • Achieve measurable product results and learnings through Lean UX Design practices
  • Participate in agile workflows and sprint ceremonies, ensuring product and engineering handover is frictionless, and the customer is represented invariably
Cultivate Design culture throughout the organisation
  • Dedicate time to your growth as a design professional, supported by training opportunities, personal development goals and networking
  • Proactively seek opportunities that raise the bar for UX Design capacity and culture across the business
  • Contribute research findings and knowledge to the evolving UX Vision and Strategy
  • Contribute to the expansion of an evolving Design System and Design Language
  • Provide feedback in Design Review sessions to improve the quality of all UX Team outputs
  • Provide direct critique and mentorship to other designers in your product area

 

What you bring

  • 4+ years end-to-end UX experience (or you’re really good)
  • Experience in an iterative, agile environment
  • Experience / proven knowledge of data visualisation
  • Experience designing software products — ideally SaaS
  • Experience running collaborative design workshops / design sprints
  • Experience mentoring other designers / non-designers
  • Proven skills in UX research; mental models, persona creation, jobs to be done…
  • Proven skills in UX design; ideation, sketching, user flows, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes…
  • Fluency with visual / UI design principles and modern design / prototyping tools (we use Figma!)
  • Experience contributing to Design Systems
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and their limitations (no we don’t want you to code!)
  • Degree / similar in a design or computer related subject
  • 30+ years experience working in cloud data transformation — Just kidding —  Although that would be useful we don’t expect you to know any of this, initially!
